Mother's Day

I think that out of everything I've ever done, being a mom has been the greatest experience of my life. I had a fabulous Mother's Day this week; hiking in the beautiful country of western Colorado, and having dinner with my two favorite boys. Here are some photos from our day.

This is from one of the outlooks on the road.

We saw this cool lizard at the trailhead to Devil's Kitchen

It's a good thing there are trail markers like this.... cause we got "off-the-trail" a few times! This is Caleb's attempt at some BAD body humor... (boys!)

One of the grottos along the way...

Yay, we made it to the end! Caleb calls this shot "Cliffhanger"...

Now, how do I get down?

Spiderboy...

See the tiny pine tree growing out of the rock? It never had anyone say that's impossible...

Our newest member of the house... Trouble!

Caleb has a new kitten.... he named him Trouble. I like to think of him as Tornado!

So I'm not the best at keeping up with this blog. I've occasionally looked through my journals kept throughout my life, and realized that I only write about every several months, if that! I always think about it and I love reading other people's renditions of their daily lives; I just never get around to my own. The only time I kept a frequent update was the journal I was forced to write in nursing school! When being asked specific questions on a regular basis, I found that I love to write and express my thoughts. Maybe I should find some kind of question source for this blog.
Anyway.... I can't believe how fast this year is flying by. It's almost my son's TENTH birthday, and it seems like it was just February. (Maybe that's because this winter was such a long one?!) We just had conferences at school, and Caleb's teacher told us how much of a genius she thinks our son is. Well, I have always thought the same thing, but I am a little biased. She suggested getting him evaluated for a gifted program so that he doesn't slip off the radar. Apparently he remains in the "advanced" categories of most all of his testing without putting forth much effort. She thinks it would be interesting to see where he ends up if he actually tries! We will have to look into it. I don't want him to get bored!
I must now go downstairs and find my workout clothes. I have a trainer appointment at the gym; another big change in the last year. I've lost 20 lbs since this time last year; mostly by eating healthier and exercising (the right way to do it!) rather than crash diets. It doesn't seem like a lot of weight to me, until I realized the other day that it would be like carrying two 10-lb bags of potatoes everywhere I went! Wow, that's pretty heavy. No wonder I never had much energy to do anything.
I will close for now. Meanwhile, maybe this weekend I'll find a journaling question source and try harder to keep this thing current. blah. :)
